Six Universities and Higher Education Institutions from five European Countries with a strong background in Physics, Material Science and Electronic Devices & Systems consisted a Strategic Partnership Alliance to develop educational material for undergraduate and postgraduate students interesting in new electronic devices and applications. “Electronics for Beyond the Silicon Era”
The project is a multidisciplinary one. In this are involved principles from Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Material Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Information Technology. The electronics beyond silicon era is a domain which will dominate in the market in the near future, with applications that no one can imagine today. This will be the new revolution in the fields of medicine, health care, telecommunications, computer sciences, automation, transportation, energy management systems and many other applications. The devices and the circuits that they are already developed and maybe will use in the new applications are based in new materials with properties that the classic electronics based on silicon don’t have. The new electrical and electronics engineers have to be educated in such way that will be ready to design, fabricate and develop these devices and circuits based on them. These fields of science and technology are in the top of research activities in our days. For the moment only the researchers and the doctorate students working in these fields are familiar with the new materials and devices and their possibilities to develop new applications where these devices are used. Now is the time to move from the research to the classrooms.
We believe that the new technology is already mature to be included in a undergraduate or first level graduate curriculum.
The new graduates have to be ready for the new technologies and to new challenges open before them.
As such courses have to be suitable and adaptable for the undergraduate and young graduate students we believe that this can be offer only from a team of experts who have at kind of collaboration in the past under various activities like common research projects, participation in conferences, working groups, seminars, summer schools and ERASMUS projects.
We are intent to develop educational material and offer this to final year undergraduate and 1st year postgraduate students in the form of one week intensive programs. These courses will be delivered in various institutions and finally they will cover a whole semester module to be part of a first year postgraduate course or in the fourth year of a undergraduate 4years bachelor program.
All the materials will be ready to deliver also in e-learning courses and we are planning to develop a short version of the module for professionals so to be used for fast track education in the field of nano-electronics.
We believe that this proposed project is an innovative one based on the previous experience and good practices that we would like to offer not only in our students but also to the students of the collaborating, under Erasmus + institutions.
